Here is a cache that can be done anytime of the year. This is nice when those winter days come and so much of Central Oregon backcountry is not accessible.
The name of the cache lies in the fact that everytime I have been in the area I come across a golf ball or two. This latest visit was no different. It seems that the golfers at Crooked River Ranch like to test their driving skills by attempting to get a ball to the other side. Evidently some succeed.
This cache is a result of the Central Oregon Pizza Feed 30/30 cache exchange. Those who brought caches to the event traded caches and then had 30 days to place a new cache within 30 miles.
This cache container is an ammo box well prepared by "elkjim". The contents are the normal cache type contents except for an Oregon geocaching coin in it when placed.
Those who know our cache hides will know that this is not a drive up and log cache. Plan to spend about 3 hours on this one. You will see some spectacular country for your efforts.
Because of the poor satellite reception this cache is an offset cache. The coordinates should lead you to a prominent landmark. From the top of this landmark the cache is approximately 150 feet at 57* TN. The ammo box is not readily seen and a rock or two will have to be moved to see it.
Please be aware that if small children or dogs are along with you that there are sheer rock cliffs in the vicinity. Also note that in no case do you have to put yourself in any dangerous situations. There are no cliffs that need to be climbed and no rock ledges to traverse. If you take the correct route the worst conditions you will face are some steeper slopes to climb up or down and about 50 feet of brush to go through.
