Bird's Eye View of the Rat Race Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

The Fej: I’m sure this one is gone, unfortunately. I have no idea when I will be able to make it back up there to replace it, so I’m just going to go ahead and archive it for good.

Geocache Description:

Placed with much help from Dr. Blevins

Located on Moremans Hill, a lesser-known area of Jefferson Memorial Forest. This area is undeveloped but permissible to enter and hike. There is no official parking area for Moremans Hill, but you may want to park at The Woods of Glen Hill Manor apartment complex and hike in.

This cache is located in an amazing area of Jefferson Memorial Forest that is quite out of the way from the rest of the forest. While it is safe and totally legal for hikers to be back in this area, no official trails have been blazed back here as of yet, although there are some unofficial trails that will lead you right to this cache. These trails are wide and well defined. So well defined that one would think that they may have been wagon, or horse trails back long, long ago (I base this not on any facts I have found, but on the width, smoothness, and definition of the trails, and the fact that there are no trees or overgrowth in the middle of the trails).

Cache is in a lage plastic rubbermaid jar wrapped in camo tape. There is no official trail head, so look for the "And So It Begins" cache, as it will put you on the trail to get up top of this ridge, (as well as give you parking coords for doing the caches in this area). Taking the trail up is much easier than trying to climb straight up the ridge or bushwacking from god knows where. The hike up is rather steep and exhausting in a few places, but the trail is well-defined and you won't have to do any climbing. And once on top, it's pretty much easy hiking over flat ground from there with very few hills to assend or descend. And you will be rewarded with some magnificent scenery and views, as well as some peace and quiet. The title of the cache will make sense once you've found it.

This area of the forest is quite beautiful, unspoiled and should be kept that way. The ATV riders who have used this area apparently have a tendency to litter, so please bring something along to help pick up garbage (Cache In, Trash Out).

Credit and inspiration for this cache must be given to FASTDRAW_23 and his "It's Your Funeral" cache, as it was the first cache placed in the Moremans Hill area. Without it, we probably never would have found this unspoiled, beautiful part of Jefferson Memorial Forest and placed this cache.

"Birds Eye View of the Rat Race" was the 2nd cache placed back in this area. In late 2006, several new caches have been placed in the Moremans Hill area. Please hunt these other caches while back in this area, and bring a cache of your own to hide up here as well! We want more people need to experience this amazing area.
