The cache is a plastic box approximately 23 cm x 6,5 cm x 17 cm
in size.
The castle "Pfannberg" is mentioned in a document first in the
year 1214 and was endified by Knight "Wichart de Pfannberch". It
was also the residence of the minstrel "Hugo von Montfort"
(1357-1423). In this time the castle attached importance in the
Mur-Valley. (Thanx cezanne for infos!) In the year 1415 Hugo
became, among other things, the "Landeshauptmann" of styria! His
hoppy-horse was to author Lovesongs.
ATTENTION: if you search the cache at the
full moon night of July, you have to reckon that you meet the ghost
of Agnes of Pfannberg with here ghost-warriors! Why? You can read
here: Agnes von Pfannberg.
Vischer Stich aus dem Buch "Topographia Ducatus
Stiriae" (1681)
There are different ways to get there:
- by car: follow "L 121" (became later B 67) up to the statue of
the Holy Christopherus, near Frohnleiten. You can park your car
right after the statue on a parking place (N 47° 15.666 E 015°
19.327). Another alternative is the park-space at the new
"Freizeitzentrum Frohnleiten" (N 47 ° 15.321 E 015°
19.231(exit/Ausfahrt)).
- by bus: "Bundesbus 100/801 Graz-Bruck/Mur-Leoben" bus stop
"Ungersdorf/GH Waidacher".
- by train: Railway-station "Frohnleiten", then follow "B 67" up
to the statue of the Holy Christopherus (but don`t cross the
autobahn!).
But... have it your own way!
Near the cache is another white sign, telling you to keep away
from the ruins because it is quite dangerous there. I have hidden
the cache outside the ruin area. You don’t have to enter the
forbidden area if you just want to find the cache! If you move on
to the ruin, it is at your own risk!
German Discription of the ruin "Alt-Pfannberg":
Das Betreten der Ruine ist also verboten, und zwar "ernsthaft
verboten" wie man auf der Internetseite www.burgenseite.at.lesen kann. Vielleicht liegt das
daran, dass erst 1963 der siebeneckige Bergfried eingestürzt ist.
Das Fundament der besonders hohen Ringmauer, die einen länglichen
Burghof formt, bilden riesige Quader.
(siehe Bild: "wall.sun.web.jpeg). Zwei weitere Toranlagen finden
sich in der tieferliegenden Vorburg mit einer freistehenden
Barbakane (Bild "Open.Door.web.jpeg"?). Dank nochmals an cezanne
für die Recherchearbeit!
I'm sorry, I haven't found any more information about the ruin
yet, but I'll keep on searching.
