The Indiana Spirit Quest series of geocaches will take you to a number of small, rural, historic cemeteries built by Hoosier Pioneers in central/Northeast Indiana. PRAIRIEPARTNERS has set a record for one-day ISQ finds on 10-16-2004 at 55! 89 cacher teams have logged over 1,200 finds.

INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST #77
”Two Pair"

This quest will take you to a West Union Cemetery, in Rock Creek Township, Huntington County.

WEST UNION

This old burial ground contains at least two souls laid to rest in 1850, with a total of 245 interrments. Several Union Civil War Veterans are buried here, including Dan'l Lines, Co.A 10th Ohio Cav., and F.M. Wasson, Co. I 167th Ohio Inf. and John R. Marshall, Co. C 12th Ind. (1840-1912) and Abraham Pugh Co. K 101st Ind. vol. Inf. (1832-1889)

There are 19 Morgans buried here, at least 7 of whom were children. There are 19 Souers, including Ernest L. (39th Inf.-served with honor in WWI), 2 sours, and 6 sowers. There are no less than 38 Rittenhouses, including two tombstones that each are shared by sets of twins:

LORENA (d. 1848,aged 1)
LORETTA (d. 1854,aged 7)

THEODORE (d. 1855, aged 13)
THEOPHILUS (illeg.)

For extra credit, find the tombstone of Thomas J. Marshall, who died at age 74 in 1861. His stone reads: "Died in the..." I can't read the rest, can you???

The cache container is a 35 mm film can. BYOP. Park with care. If you find a fallen US flag, please stick it back in the ground. As always, please be respectful, and cache in, trash out.
