Geocache Description:

Don't be fooled by the description. This cache only takes about 30 mins to complete.

Welcome to Halyburton Park !!

The Halyburton Park cache was put in place in the spirit of Scouting by members of Cub Scout Pack 226  in Wilmington, NC
(Coordinates N 34° 12.11 W 077° 53.09)

Waypoint 1
Park anywhere in the parking lot. Way Point 1 is N 34° 10.596 W 077° 54.337 Take a moment to visit the event center to get a park map and other information. You will benefit from a compass in addition to a GPSr for this cache but you don't need one. This is a Scouting sponsored cache so a compass is involved.  About the cache, if you take something, leave something. Always sign the log. Always enjoy yourself.  Your journey will take you on a 1.5 mile round trip stroll mostly on a paved trail. Please note that the park is open from sunrise to sunset and hours change in the winter months.

You will need to bring insect repellant in the warmer months. Please stay on the marked trails or paved path.

Way Point 2
From waypoint 1 you will need to follow a Compass bearing of 122 degrees for 350 feet to way point 2 (hint: it is a lamp post)

From waypoint 2 you will need to take a bearing of 65 degrees to a picnic shelter. Count the number of supports in the shelter, you will need this information for the next waypoint.   There are only two shelters in case you forgot a compass.

Waypoint 3
The 3rd waypoint is N 34° 10.__35 W 077° 54.__48. To fill in the blanks…..

How many posts support the roof of the shelter from waypoint 2?
Add 1 to the number of support and that is the 1st blank . The 2nd blank is the number of supports minus 2.

At waypoint 3 you will find a sign. Read the sign for the following clues to get the coordinates to the cache at waypoint 4.
-The number of letters in the title of the 2nd picture is the number for the first blank, subtract 3 and that is the 2nd blank
- Find out how many inches a tree grows in one year. Subtract 2 from the number of feet of growth and that is the third blank.

Waypoint 4
The cache coordinates are N 34° 10.__1__ W 077° 54.__86
The cache is a 4” x 10” Tupperware container. The container is on top of the ground, but cannot be seen. You will have to thoroughly search for it. No digging is needed. You may have to move aside some forest debris to see them but please be gentle. Remember a good Scout leaves no trace and leaves a site better than he found it. Please keep the cache well hidden for the next person.

After finding the cache y o u can go back to the paved path. You cannot get lost because the park is bordered by private property, roads and a fence. You will pass many signs posted in the ground with descriptions of the vegetation and wildlife. Take a moment to enjoy the nature scenery and  information.

Return to the Parking Lot
To get back home, click your heels and repeat the Cub Scout Motto “Do Your Best” and follow the paved path back to the parking lot.
