Sinterklaas is a traditional Dutch Holiday. He is the Dutch
predecessor of Santa Claus. His birthday is celebrated on the fifth of
December, with gift
giving (done by Sinterklaas) who spends most of the year in Spain, but visits
the Netherlands to give gifts to all the kids (and adults). So there is
giftgiving on this holiday, while Christmas is just celebrated as a religious
holiday, and a time to get together with friends and family.
More about Sinterklaas can be found at
Hello Sinterklaasje
.
We thought hiding a cache would be a fun addition to our usual Sinterklaas
celebration. Since Sinterklaas is mostly a kid's holiday, we filled the ammo
box with lots of toys, and this cache would be a perfect place to get rid of
some of those McDonalds Happy Meal toys which you didn't want to put in more
serious caches :-)
Some of the original contents are a bear, a fish, an 8-sided die, lego, toy
cars, and assorted other toys. The cache is hidden at Boston Lot in Lebanon,
you can park close to the Wilder dam at North 43 41.086, West 072 16.918, and
hike up from there. There are two other caches in the general area,
Boston Lot Cache
, and
Indian Ridge Summit Scenic View
. Both of those can be reached from the same parking lot.
