Der Lousberg, eine der geologischen Höhepunkte des Aachener
Stadtgebietes hat seit einiger Zeit einen Rangplatz verloren. Der
Lärmschutzwall zwischen der Autobahn A44 und dem Stadtteil
Aachen-Brand überragt ihn jetzt um einige Meter. Zum Schutz des in
den späten 80er und 90er Jahren neu besiedelten Wohngebietes
"Brander Feld" wurde er im Laufe von 8 Jahren aufgeschüttet.
Durch eine gute Idee der Stadt
Aachen wurden die Anwohner hierfür aber nicht zur Kasse gebeten,
wie es sonst meist üblich ist. Der Planbereich wurde einfach als
Lagerstätte für Erdaushub eingerichtet und durch die regen
Bautätigkeiten im Aachener Umfeld erreichte der Hügel bald eine
stattliche Höhe. Die Stadt Aachen erfreute sich zudem an den
Deponiegebühren.
Mittlerweile ist der südliche Teil
des Walls als kleines Naherholungsgebiet kultiviert worden. Den
höchsten Punkt markiert ein großer Stein mit Inschrift, der vom
Brander Bürgerverein gestiftet wurde. Von dort oben hat man eine
weite Aussicht über Brand, auf das Stadtgebiet Aachens und auf die
Höhenzüge der Eifel. Kinder können die Höhe mit einer rasanten
Fahrt auf einer Rutschbahn geniessen.
Parken ist in der Schagenstr. und
deren Seitenstrassen möglich. Die ASEAG-Busse halten an der
Haltestelle "Schagenstr." und "Brander Feld" (Linien 45, 5 und
75).
Für die Koordinaten des Caches
ermittelt die exakte Höhe des Walls (findet man dort):

Bitte Vorsicht, falls ihr
freilaufende Kinder oder Tiere dabei habt! Der Lärmschutzwall ist
zwar öffentlich zugänglich, liegt aber funktionsgemäss nahe der
Autobahn!
Noch ein Hinweis: In der Vegetationsphase (Spätfrühling, Sommer
und Herbst) sind die letzten 50m in Hanglage zum Cache sehr stark
bewachsen. Es sind lange Hosen und feste Schuhe
erforderlich!
English version:
The Lousberg, one of the
geological elevations in the Aachen city area has lost one step in
the ranking of hights. A noise protection wall between the highway
A44 and the district Aachen-Brand overtops it now by some meters.
It was heaped up during 8 years to protect the new urban
development area that raised during the late 80s and
90s.
Thanks to a good idea by the city
council, the residents didn't have to pay for that, like they
usually have to do in most cases. The area was established as a
site to deposit ground excavations. As there were a lot of house
building activities in the surroundings of Aachen, the hill grew to
a stately height. Additionally the Aachen council cashed the
deposit charges.
By the time the southern part of
the hill was cultivated as a regional recreation area. On top of
the hill a big stone with engravings, donated by the Brander
Bürgerverein, was placed as a landmark. From here there is a great
view over Aachen-Brand, the Aachen city area and the Eifel.
Children enjoy the height having a great ride downhill on a
playground slide.
Parking is possible in Schagenstr.
and in the neighboring streets. Busses of the ASEAG stop at
"Schagenstr." and "Brander Feld" (lines 45, 75 and 5).

you have to find the accurate height of the hill (marked
there):

Please pay attention, if you
come along with children or pets! The hill is a public area, but
according to it's destination the hill is close to the highway!
Just an other advice: During times of growing vegetations (late
spring, summer and fall) the last 50m on the slope to the cache are
heavy overgrown. Long pants and sturdy shoes are
recommended!
