22 December 2004, 6PM-8PM. A Festivus for the Rest of Us. Steiner Ranch Lake Club. Facilities include covered Picnic tables, boat docks, and restrooms.
Festivus is a non-denominational holiday that can be shared by anyone. The traditional Festivus celebration is simple:
- It's traditionally celebrated on December 23rd, but we'll celebrate 'Festivus Eve' on the 22nd.
- The Festivus Pole. There is no tree. Festivus features instead an 8-foot aluminum pole, unadorned. Tinsel is distracting.
- The Spinning of Yarns. During this time we all take turns trying to out-do each other with tall tales of Geocaching misadventures. (In the Orthodox Festivus tradition this would be called "The Airing of Grievances," but in the Reform Festivus tradition we have enough grief already.)
- The Feats of Strength - During this time, we will hold a thumb-wrestling tournament. The winner wins a 5-gallon bucket full of swag, ready to deploy as a new cache. The only way you can get out of the Feats of Strength is if you have something better to do.
Feel free to bring drinks, light snacks and a boat. If someone brings a boat, we will sing Festivus carols out on the lake. I will supply the Festivus pole, though it will be an artifical one, a PVC pipe painted metallic silver color. Unfortunately, with things the way they have been over the last year and a half, I simply can't afford a real Festivus pole. I hope you'll understand.
