Geocache Description:

Near the Loma Vista Community Center. Paved path fairly close. Lots of goat heads.

There is currently some construction nearby but the cache is a short distance away. This will mean more muggles but if one sits near the cache and observes the work you will have a good cover story. I think they are putting in Apartments which will increase the mugglebleness of the cache so it may be retired if this is the case.

Welcome to 1943! This lot, including the Community Center was the location of Albuquerques first drive-in movie theater, the Cactus Drive-in! A couple of miles south of Route 66 brought one past the suburbs to the silver screen! 50¢ for adults, the kids were free and John Wayne and Lana Turner were the lead in the double feature.

This is a log only cache, no room for anything, including a pencil. More on this later. Tweezers or needle nose pliers make the job of removing the log easier.

You can still make out the last few rows of the theater if you go to the west side of the property there are three distinct "car humps" that once formed what was called makeout territory. The capacity was 776 vehicles, no telling how many came in the trunk. Need more data? Check out these excelent web sites: (visit link) or (visit link)
You can find satellite pictures that show the terrain and other information about this ghost drive-in. The main screen was next to the street, so if you like you can sit on one of the benches and imagine what it was like thirty years ago (you have to supply the popcorn and imagination). Muggles could be a problem so stay alert!

IMPORTANT: This is micro cache, there is no pencil, pen or any writing device due to the small size. You need to bring something to write with to log your visit!
