Geocache Description:

Learn some of the history of this rivertown and get a cache at the same time.

Start by going to the coordinates at the top of the page.  There you will find an Ohio Historical marker.  Read one side to gain some knowledge about the Miami & Erie Canal.  Read the other side to find out about the founder of Waterville, John Pray.

When Waterville was first laid out as a town in 1831 by John Pray, how many lots were created ?  ______

Add the answer to the below number in parentheses to get the North coordinates for the final stage of the cache.

N 41°  29.(569)

Next, go to N 41°  29.959   W 083°  43.042   This will be Columbia House, completed by John Pray in 1837.  Some additional history of this historic inn can be found here .

There are 3 doors on the front of Columbia House.  How many of the 3 have a historical plaque mounted on the door ?

  • If 1 then your final west coordinate is:  W 083°  42.878
  • If 2 then your final west coordinate is:  W 083°  42.980
  • If 3 then your final west coordinate is:  W 083°  42.913

Proceed to the final cache area and find the Lock-n-Lock container. This area is definitely prone to flooding at certain times of the year. But the cache is a watertight container and is in an area where it'll get wet but won't float away.
