O'er The Fields Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

TeamK-9: I was originally holding off on archiving this one, so that I could put out my new cache, and hold on to the spot.

Quite frankly, I feel that's unfair.

I'm archiving it, allowing anyone else to come in and put up a cache, but I'm still working on putting my own, new cache here, I'm just slightly delayed.

Geocache Description:

Hempfield Township is home to many fields. Agricultural, athletic, and even historical battle fields can be found within short driving distance. This cache hopes to showcase just a few of those fields. This cache should also show that algebra really can be useful out in the real world, and knowing that, a calculator may come in handy. Cachers should understand that the above listed coordinates are not the final cache.

EDIT: On October 4, 2005, it was determined by myself and a small posse of searchers that the cache is missing.  There are two possibilities regarding the fate of this cache, and I am actively pursuing both of them.  I am leaving the cache page up for the time being in hopes that I do find it.

Cachers should realize that the coordinates above are not the actual cache!  The above listed coordinates will lead you to a local landmark.  Depending on the time of year, you may be able to park right at the listed coordinates or you may need to park in a different parking area (N40°  20.681    W079°  30.318).  At the coordinates above you will find a fairly large and obvios sign with two, four digit numbers on it, they're actually years.  The numbers are right next to eachother in large print on the third line.

This is where we get into the horrible thing that is ALGEBRA:
From this point on, the first year on the sign will be referred to as the variable C.
The second year on the sign will be referred to as the variable A.

From here you must substitute those variables into the following equations:
((C - A) + C) - 1018 = H
(((C+A) - 2586) - C) + 1178 = E

And from there, substitute those variables into the following coordinate sets:
N 40°   20.H
W 079°  33.E

Those coordinates will lead you on an approximately 3 mile journey on the historically signifigant "Forbes Road"  to the final cache, which should prove to be amazingly simple, yet challenging at the same time.  There are numerous places to park for the final cache, and how close you park will greatly depend on the day you go.  Cachers should allow themselves a minimum of one hour before dusk to finish this cache.  Please abort your search if it is after dusk.

This cache was meant to be hard, and so originally, it was rated a lot higher for difficulty and it included no hint.  Recently, I realized how easy this was, so I changed the rating to reflect the true easiness, but there's still no hint.  *evil laugh*

I would like to specifically thank my dad (BikeTrex) for proofreading this cache page.  My dyslexia caused the original equations to be a bit messed up, fortunately, he caught the errors before it caused anyone harm.  I have no clue where you'd be if you had followed my coordinates.

PLEASE!  Rehide the cache the same way you found it.
