Younger's Ravine Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

IronHorseReviewer: [Greetings from Geocaching.com

It looks like your cache has been under the weather for some time. While we feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from hiding new geocaches around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can't do so forever. Therefore we are archiving this cache so that someone else can place a cache in the area and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. If you haven't done so already, please pick up any remaining cache pieces as soon as possible.

If you are in the process of replacing or repairing your cache please e-mail me in response to this archival, and I will assist you in getting your cache re-listed if possible.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and look forward to seeing your caches up and running in the future.

Geocache Description:

The cache site overlooks a deep ravine characteristic of the knobs in this particular part of the state. The knobs that make up this part of the state are a flank of Muldraughs Hill. Muldraugh's Hills' are a circular structure of continuous hills called an escarpment. The knobs make up a physiographic region that circles the Blue Grass Region. The hills, or knobs were originally were continuous within the Mississippian Plateau. Muldraugh's Hill is lithologically comprised of petrographically weak Mississippian-age shales that are capped by more resistant Mississippian-age limestones.

The primary rock lithologies that are found in this region are the Harrodsburg Limestone; Muldraugh Member and Upper Shale Member of the Muldraugh Formation.

The cache is located in the Younger's Creek Recreation Area, owned by the Hardin County government. It is best to the take the trail next to the bridge. The cache is a rather easy find. You can follow the trail system all the way to the cache and it is located just a few feet off the trail. No extensive off-trail travel should be required.

The original cache contents are a few assorted toys, rocks, and fossil specimens. There is a log book and pencil.
