Geocache Description:

This cache is located at the top of Mt Oxford in North Canterbury. It is a 3 to 4 hour hike up the 1364m hill to get to it.

The cache is a 1 litre clear/blue snaplock type container hidden right at the summit of the hill. It is invisible unless you are right on top of it as it is covered in rocks. When hidden the cache contained a plastic practice golf ball, a toy truck, two luggage labels, a keyring, some Australian coins, a telephone/address book, a pencil, sharpener, notebook and notice.

The cache was hidden on New Year's Day when there was low cloud and rain in the area, but on a clear day you can see forever! It is the best subalpine walk in the northern foothills region because it encompasses the greatest diversity of terrain and vegetation. The climb up is a challenge but I enjoyed it!

The suggested starting point is the Coopers Creek carpark. When you get to the top you can then descend via the same track or complete the 7 to 8 hour circuit across to the Wharfdale Track, link track to Coopers Creek (via the Ryde Falls if you haven't found the cache there yet). You could also start your hike from the View Hill carpark giving a supposedly shorter trip (but it is probably no easier!).

The cache is in a fairly obvious hiding place as there aren't very many at the top. Please don't demolish the rock wall wind break during your search as it isn't hidden in there.

It is a great hike , especially if you are fit.
