The intent of this cache is to introduce you to another less well-known hobby, Hi-Powered Model Rocketry! Several times a month, even in winter, Richard Bong State Recreation Area is host to rocket launches. Some of the rockets are small 1-2 foot in height, and others are 10 feet tall or taller. Check the link for dates of the launches. You'll have fun finding the cache (it's well out of the way of the rocketry group, but the view of the launch site is good), and enjoy some really spectacular rockets! Be aware that there is a $5 ($10 non-resident) entrance fee to the park.
The best place to park is at N42.38.090 W88.10.794. The cache is only .15 miles from the lot, but there is no trail. You'll need to do some bushwacking and go down and up a small ravine. Three small boys helped us set up the cache, so it's not as difficult as it sounds!
You're looking for a canister covered with camouflage tape. The cache began with a log book, Silly Putty, Batman, Spiderman, Sponge Bob hair ties, rings and the SnowBird Travel Bug.
This is a good all-season cache! Deep snow won't interfere with your hunting!
