My wife and I had the Regional Park place a bench at this site for my father-in-law for his eightieth Birthday. It’s a steep climb and you will probably need to get a map of the park to find the trail to the cache. If you know the park it should be an easy find (after a strenuous hike).
In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.
Gordon’s Bench Cache will only exist for one year; the cache will be removed after the first of the year 2006.
Please place items that pertain to hiking, back packing, world travel, or other outdoor adventure.
Items in the new cache include:
A water filter
A Mapping CD
2 compass w/ thermometer
A Buck knife
A wine bottle opener
Gordon turned 80 in March 2004 and for a surprise we bought a bench and placed it in his favorite spot in Garland Park. A few days after his birthday Gordon and a large group of family and friends hiked to the bench for a picnic and a bottle of wine.
Today Gordon is still an avid back packer. Gordon is a docent for the park and still leads hikes to the bench on Vasquez Knob.
There are several ways to get to the cache but the easiest is to start from the Kahn Ranch but you will need to plan ahead and get a permit from the park @ (visit link) Kahn Ranch permit info.
If you don't know the park you will need to do a little research and get some maps before you start. For maps and info about the park check (visit link) Mty Parks Home Page.
