SeaAggies: Thanks for coming everyone! We'll have to do it again sometime. BTW....here's the cobbler recipe.

2 boxes yellow cake mix
2 cans apple pie filling (or any other pie filling)
squeeze butter

Mix 1.5 boxes cake mix, apples, and 1 cup water together and place in the bottom of lightly oiled dutch oven (sometimes I cheat and libe the oven with foil). Sprinkle rest of cake mix on top. Squeeze butter on top of mix. Cook for 1 to 1.5 hours with 5-7 coal beneath dutch oven and 12-18 coals on top. Cook until top is golden brown. YUM!

Geocache Description:

Join us at Big Cypress National Preserve for a camping geocaching event! Big Cypress National Preserve is home to numerious endangered species as well as other flora and fauna that uniquely identifies South Florida. This 2,400 square mile park provides a wonderful habitat and inviting setting to a camping event. The focus of this event is to meet fellow geocachers and share geocaching past, present, and future.

February is a beautiful month in Florida, so we, the SeaAggies, have decided to camp out in the Everglades for a night. This event is a multi-stage event and the current coordinates will not take you to the campsite, but to where a certain lost wallet was once found. On February 4, 2005, the stages will be layed out and it is suggested that you arrive at the first stage no later than noon the day of the event in order to arrive for an afternoon of camaraderie.

The campsite is first-come-first-serve and there is not a fee to camp. Camping areas are primitive, meaning bring your own water and food as well as toilet paper for those late night excursions to the woods or to use in the small port-o-potty. We will bring some board games and cards as well a cooler of soft drinks, but please bring your own grub. Also, collection of firewood on the ground is permitted as well as bringing in your own wood. A group campfire will begin around 7:00pm. Lots of smores will be made and hopefully many geocaching stories will be told.

Since the area in question does not allow geocaches, though there are virtuals and at least two regular caches within 30 minutes, we will have to be creative in our geocaching. We've been exploring several ideas and hope to have them ready on the day of the event. There will be a travel bug exchange the night of the 5th. Go ahead and check any travel bugs in that you intend to bring. On the morning of the 6th at around 10:00 there will be a camouflaging class. An ammo box will be cammoed and this box will go to a deserving winner (secret contest :)). Remember your standard camping fare: chairs, tent, sleeping bag, toothbrush and toothpaste... Bring your bicycles, hiking sticks, or kayaks to explore the area where otters, anhinga, herons, egrets, deer, alligators, and a plethora of other wildlife hangs out. A camera is a must for this park!

We hope to see several familiar faces as well as new ones for our event! Please RSVP here on the board so that we have an estimate on how many to plan for.

Event Time: 12 Noon 2/5/05 until around 12 Noon 2/6/05.

Update 1/30/2005
We have picked out the site and have set the stages (to be picked up on Sunday when we leave) and will be putting the coordinates up to the first stage Thursday morning for the few of you who will be wanting to go out there early. We will be coming out Saturday morning hopefully around 10am. Bring your dessert appetite because we will be preparing apple cobbler after dinner on Saturday evening. We're looking forward to seeing everyone and having some fun! :) Lots of hiking areas around and plenty of wildlife. We saw three deer today that we snuck up on during a hike on a trail, so who knows what we all may see!

*Note: There are known panthers in the area. Please, if you bring small pets or children, do not let them out of your sight*
