Grims kula är en blockgrotta på södra Verkö.
OBS! Koordinaterna anger ingången till grottan inte
cachens faktiska placering!
Grims kula is a stone cave on the southern part of Verkö.
NOTE! The coordinates is for the entrance of the cave, not the
real location of the cache.
Grottans namn härleds till jätten eller
vikingahövdingen Grim som enligt sägen bodde i grottan
sommartid. Resten av året bodde han på Grimskär
som ligger i Kalmar sund utanför Kalmar slott. Det
påstås även att Verkö förr burit namnet
Grimsholmen.
Grottan är historiskt intressant då man på
1700-talet hittade en stridsyxa (hillebard typ), en 25 kg tung
sköld och en kobjällra fylld med utländska
silverpenningar. Enligt uppgift finns endast stridsyxan bevarad
idag.
I området finns väldiga skärv av kolossala block
kastade huller om buller som bildar grottor och gångar.
Ytterligare en ganska stor grotta kan man finna på
följande position:

Om ni har tid och tycker att en promenad på ca 1 timme vore
trevlig så kan jag rekommendera östra Verkö
(Näsudden) mot Knösösund. Här finns en fin
bokskog med fina promenadstigar.
The name of the cave is derived from the giant or the Viking chief
Grim who according to the legend lived in the cave during
summertime. Rest of the year Grim lived at an island in Kalmar sund
called Grimskär, just outside the castle in Kalmar (Kalmar
Slott). The legend also claims that the former name of Verkö
was Grimsholmen (Grims islet).
During the 18th century a battle-axe, a 25 kilogram shield and a
cow bell with foreign silver coins where found in the cave. Only
the axe is preserved.
In the area there are a lot of big bolders that creates caves. An
