Tommy’s Mountain overlooks Carrizo Canyon in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park®. Easiest access is from Bow Willow Campground (N 32° 50.533 W 116° 13.573). It is approximately 1 mile each way with an elevation gain of 300 feet, mostly in the last tenth of a mile.
This mountain, unnamed on the USGS Sweeney Pass Topo Map, has been called “Tommy’s Mountain” amongst our circle of friends since the mid-90’s when the first summit register was placed here.
Tommy who is the youngest son of the register placer was in elementary school at the time. Now he is a teenage high school football player.
The original register turned up missing in November 2004 and so we are replacing it and making it a geocache. Initial swag consists of kid’s toys in a standard sized ammo box.
This is typical desert hiking. Be prepared and be careful.
