In honor of Michelle on her twenty-first birthday and recognizing
the fine design of a night cache to the south (Cammie455’s Night
Prowler GCM1DX).
Park in the parking lot and walk to the edge of the woods to the
coordinates listed. Your starting point will be the
informational sign for the South Lakes Nature Trail. Walk west down
the nature trail into the woods 75 paces to your first reflector.
Using your flashlight (not too weak and not too strong) look high
and low for white reflectors leading the way. Reflectors are placed
approximately every 75 to 100 feet. If you don’t see the next
reflector, try walking down the trail ten to fifteen feet and try
again.
Approximately 230 feet from the first reflector turn right,
leaving the groomed crushed white rock trail, onto a dirt path.
Follow the reflectors until you reach the obvious “end” tree. Cache
is in a camouflaged 7” x 5” x 5” container and is within fifteen
feet of the “end” tree. A little bushwhacking may be required.
Run out of reflectors? You’ve probably walked past the “end”
tree. Re-trace your steps (or check your tracking feature) and try
again.
Great stuff to put into a night cache includes glow-in-the-dark
night sticks, small flashlights, and extra batteries.
After finding the cache return on the same path that you came in
on. You’ll see additional reflectors helping to guide your return
trip.
The trail to the cache is approximately a ¼ mile making the
entire search approximately ½ mile. Excellent for kids except for
possible thorns in the fufteen foot area around the cache.
FTF Congratulations to joshbaugh who braved rain and dark to be
FTF in what was his first night cache!
