Cotton Mill Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

AndyR24592: Yep, it's missing. Thanks to everyone for searching. I'm sorry to say that this one will likely remain archived. I've put more than enough time, energy and money into this one to keep replacing it. Muggles suck.

Happy caching!

Geocache Description:

This cache is back! Too great a location to remain archived.

PLEASE COVER THE CONTAINER SO THAT IT CAN NOT BE SEEN. If this cache is muggled again it will probably not be replaced.

You can park within 50 feet of this one and there is no need to cross the creek. It should be a very easy find. Terrain is a 2 because you must go up a short hill that tends to be slick most of the year.

Placed to commemorate the now mostly destroyed Halifax Cotton Mill. The Mill was the beginning of non-agricultural industry in South Boston and Halifax County, Virginia. It was established in 1897 as the Century Cotton Mill, eventually bought by a group of local businessmen led by William A. McCanless, Sr. and named Halifax Cotton Mill.

It was one of the few plants world-wide that produced the red and white checked damask material commonly used as tablecloths.

It was razed in the summer of 2001, but the smoke stack and central tower of the main building were left to honor it's historical importance.

The cache is located across the road from the actual mill site. Muggles pose a risk, but otherwise this should be an easy find.

I work VERY close to this site. In fact, my company purchased the parking lot when the Mill's assets were sold off. If I see you searching I'll come over to say hello, or you are welcome to come inside and ask for me.

Please take a minute to recover the cache when you're done. In winter it can be very easy for muggles to see it if it's not well covered.

Vegetation might be an issue through the summer months, so be prepared for ticks, etc.
