After the Falls Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

geodarts: A beautiful area with some personal history. The GPSr took me to the cache. The alternative directions remained absolutely accurate. The cache was a little more open than when I last checked on this. I might have left things as they are, but the area is not easy for me to visit so I decided to let this one go.

Geocache Description:

A short walk past Cascade Falls in Mill Valley.

Cascade Falls and Three Wells are found in a redwood canyon just up the road from downtown Mill Valley - a good place after the rains or any time of the year.

I once lived in an old house nearby the falls. The owner of the property insisted that Marilyn Monroe and Joe Dimaggio had stayed in the house around the time they were married. I have no reason to believe the story, but the title of the cache is reminiscent of Arthur Miller, who Marilyn went on to marry. According to Dan Bern she should have married Henry Miller instead. And I do know that my daughter was born in that house -- I walked to the falls the morning before her birth; now she is a bit older and likes to come here to look for candy cap mushrooms.

There is a parking area on Cascade Drive near the falls, and it takes only a few minutes to walk there. But one can also park near the corner of Throckmorton Drive and find the trail (lower down on Cascade Drive) that takes one through the Three Wells and on to the falls. In the summer, this can provide a fun place for children to cool off. In the winter, is a beautiful spot in its own right. If you park near the falls, take the trail on the other side of the street to Three Wells before you leave.

The area is a wooden canyon. My gpsr claimed a 25 foot accuracy, but if your signals vary from mine, stay on the trail that goes above the falls to the left, and then down across the bridge. Just past the bridge - away from the falls - is a fallen tree (the one directly in front of you), turn right. Search for a lock n' lock type of container in a likely spot. If the cache is returned as it should be, the cache is not visible but it should not be hard to find. Please return it as you found it.
