Fleet Pond Frolics Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Baked_Spudz: Sad to say that the cache has, indeed, gone. [:(]

Given the amount of beer cans and bottles littered around, it seems that the cache location has become a bit of a hideout for the local yobs; hence, I would imagine, the cache going missing. For this reason, we won't be replacing the cache.

We just hope that whoever now has the cache will gain some pleasure from stealing an battered box full of old toys and freebies.

With thanks and best wishes to everyone who's found this cache over its lifetime,

Baked_Spudz

Geocache Description:

Fleet Pond, Hampshire, is a nature reserve off the A3013 only a couple of minutes from Junction 4A of the M3. This is a level, circular route of about 2 miles and should take about an hour.

The above waypoint relates to the starting point for the walk around Fleet Pond. It begins in the main car park, which is a right turn after coming into the reserve from the A3013.

To find the cache itself, the following clues have to be solved. The clues are easily spotted, and there is no need to leave the main paths to complete this walk.

The terrain is fairly easy going, but is a bit too uneven for pushchairs.

The location of the cache can be found by substituting the letters in this code for the numbers revealed by the answers to the clues: N AB°CD.EFG', W HJK°LM.NPQ'

The area is quite popular with dog walkers, but the location of the cache is out of the way and should be pretty quiet.

1. N 51°17.440', W 000°49.118'

When did Chris Packham declare the reserve twinned? (dd/mm/yy)
Answer: CD/BJ/HP

At the moment, this sign is missing. Until it is replaced, the answer to this clue is 17/10/03

c) The Royal Navy? - 54

Answer: NQ

How many uses does this sign list for coppiced hazel?
Answer: A

When was Sandy Hill first listed as a coppice? (Last two numbers only).
Answer: EL

4. N 51°17.207', W 000°49.102'

In which month can the ringlet butterfly be seen? (mm)
Answer: KG

From this location you can take a short detour down the board walk to a small beach by the lake, which is worth a look. When you're ready, head back to the waypoint to continue.

5. N 51°16.981', W 000°48.965'

How many letters are there in the surname of the person who signed the military byelaws?
Answer: M

What is the last digit of the year in which the byelaws were passed?
Answer: F

When you have solved all clues you can proceed to the cache point. From the last waypoint, the easiest route is to stick to the main path that runs alongside the stream. There is no need to cross back over.

The cache is an ammo box which contains:

Logbook Disposable camera - please take a photo but leave the camera! Red beaded purse Denim mobile phone case Packet of coloured chalk Lots of little odds and ends.

Having found the cache, a quick route back to the car park is to head towards N 51°17.531', W 000°48.622' and then back to the first waypoint from there.

Good luck!
