Geocache Description:

Matteus Kyrka invigdes 1892 av biskop C.A. Cornelius. Kyrkan är uppförd i nygotisk stil och ritad av Helgo Zettervall, av dåtiden ansedd som landets främste arkitekt och företrädare för nygotikens tegelstensarkitektur.

Matteus Kyrka uppfördes främst i tegel, men även det nya materialet cement fick en framträdande plats och användes i portaler, fönsteromfattningar, listverk och utsmyckningar.

Det är en nygotisk treskeppig hallkyrka. Alla skeppen är ungefär lika höga. Kyrkan rymmer ungefär 1400 sittplatser.

Det 64 meter höga tornet, som f.ö. är Norrköpings högst belägna punkt, har i öster ett stort rosettfönster.

St. Matthew Church was consecrated in 1892 by bishop C.A. Cornelius. The curch was built in a neo-gothic style according to plans made by Helgo Zettervall, one of the most prominent architects at the time.

St. Mattew Church was raised mostly with bricks, but the new material concrete was used in portals, around windows and ornamentations.

It is a neo-gothic church with three aisles. All aisles are approx. the same size. The curch can seat about 1400 people.

The Steeple, which is 64 meters high, is the highest point of Norrköping, has a big rose-window in the east.
