Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden in a 40 acre natural habitat and wildlife area called Buffalo Creek Outdoor Education center. Its located next to the Agricultural center in Carrollton, and parking for this trail is located at the Ag Center.

A 1 Mile trail meanders through this area with outdoor classrooms and crosses Buffalo Creek, where it gets its name. There is no admission fee and is open to the public.

The nature center opened in the fall of 1995, when Don Morris, County Extension agent suggested a nature trail be built. Earl Bonner, a ranger for the Georgia Forestry Commission took it one step farther and helped create a center that gives kids an opportunity to see parts of history that could not be experienced in the classroom. Bonner himself gives school children tours on the trail.

There are many points of interest on the trail, including a Blacksmith shop, a replica of an authentic log cabin, beaver dam, several agricultural tools from the past and a garden area on top of the hill. School children visit the trail and participate in activities throughout the year.

The Bold Springs Schoolhouse built in 1890 has been moved from its location in town and resides on the Buffalo Creek property. This school was in session until 1932 and some of the graduating class of 1924 that still reside in Carrollton have signed the blackboard in the classroom. The schoolhouse is only open to the public on special occasions, but the signatures can be viewed through the windows.

This is a four part cache, the coordinates for the 1st part will be given here, the rest of the coordinates will be given at each location, along with a hint. These are placed at various locations along the Buffalo Creek trail. Please stay on trail as much as possible as you get all coordinates, to protect forest growth. These coordinates will get you in the general area, some are under trees and will not be as accurate.

This is a public park but we acquired permission anyway from Bill Hodges at the Ag center. He can be reached at 770-836-6715.
The information acquired came from Mr. McDaniel and others at the Georgia Forestry Commission.

The coordinates for the first cache are given
