Tommy's Clue Cache Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Bubba Riley: I'm not sure who's on the watchlist.

This cache has been up for a few years. It's last find was quite awhile ago.

I've been trying to figure out which puzzles to close down or change to Traditionals. This was on the list.

Recently a cache by one of my best pals went in here. Actually less than a foot away. Funny how great minds think alike. I'm taking this oppurtunity to archive this cache so that the area may get some more visitors.

If you found this cache by mistake while looking for the other cache I will allow finds.

My cache container was removed today.

Thanks to all that have looked for this cache or appreciated my work. : )

Geocache Description:

The above coords are made up numbers. The cache is not hidden there.

Over the next couple of days I will release clues leading to final cache location.

I know I said I was done with the clue caches. This story just came to me and I figured one more couldn't hurt.

This is a winter friendly road side micro. You will need to bring a pen.

On to the cache -

I recently showed Monks Clue Cache to a family member. They enjoyed the story and filled me in on yet another baffling hidden mystery. I thought it would be fun to share it with all of you.

When Monk was growing up he was great friends with a boy named Tommy. Tommys family worked a small farm and had very little money. The local boys often teased him. Monk was always there to protect Tommy from the bullies. A great friendship formed that continued on for many years.

One day while running errands in Boston, Tommy was captured by British troops who claimed that he was trying to persuade a British soldier to desert. He was kept prisoner until the next day when , without any form of hearing , he was stripped, tarred and feathered ,and paraded through the streets to a now famous song.

Tommy survived this ordeal and ran home to tell Monk. The two young men gathered the towns people together for a meeting. This event outraged the people of that town causing them to vote for the arming and training of minutemen.

Shortly after that day the two men were walking through the woods to fill Monks bucket. They were discussing the upcoming battles and were fearful of what the outcome might be. Monk suggested that Tommy hide a bucket of his own to keep in touch with friends and family. That night Tommy hid his bucket.

In the mean time, the British General Gage was preparing an attack to seize the ammunition the patriots had stored in Concord. It was about eleven o'clock on the night of April 18 , 1775 that Paul Revere and William Dawes set out on their, now famous, ride to give the alarm, and call for the minutemen to resist the advance of this attack. The midnight riders probably reached Tommys town about two o'clock in the morning. His home would be among the first to receive the summons and were very eager to respond to it after their recent experience with the British.

Both Tommy and Monk returned home from the battle safely. Tommy decided to keep the bucket as a reminder and as a way to stay in touch with friends and family. I was told that the bucket has been moved many times , however , it can still be found .

I am asking for your help in tracking this bucket down. Here is what I know so far -

The bucket has always remained in Tommys home town.
Tommys full name was Thomas Ditson Jr.
The song the British sang while parading Tommy through town was Yankee Doodle .

I will search for some more information and post what I find as soon as it becomes available.

Day Two clue -

I was able to find some information on this spot. Here is what I found out.

I was told that the bucket was last hidden by a distant cousin. She wanted to place it in a small park where her contribution would matter.

The family often joked about how she chose a road named after the place where all of Tommys troubles began.

I was given the cousins phone number and will try to reach her. I will post any information I find as soon as possible.

Day three clue -

I was not able to reach her by phone, however, this morning I received an email . It said.-

Hi Bubba,
I heard that you are looking for the bucket. I chose that spot because if you walked to the waters edge you can still see the reamins of an old bridge that Tommy would fish off of as a child. I hid it near a place I hope to meat again. It is approximately 50 feet from the river and 400 feet from an ocean. I hid it in the tallest Christmas tree.

Good luck.
