The cache is located off a paved abandoned road. It is a somewhat steep climb with beautiful vistas.
This is a traditional cache in a small tupperware container. You do not need to bushwhack to get to the cache--you can stay on paved roads. If you're brave, careful, and go slow, you can drive a car all the way to the cache, although walking to it from the parking coordinates is recommended and offers some beautiful views. If you walk, bring water.
If you drive, beware that the road from the parking coordinates to the cache is an abandoned road with lots of potholes. It is only wide enough for one car (you won't encounter opposing traffic, however). It was passible at the time that this cache was restored--no guarantees that it will remain so. Don't drive up unless you are comfortable backing down a one lane mountain road should you encounter something blocking the road. If you drive up, you can drive further up the hill from the cache to the fork in the road (see below) to turn your car around.
Take time to enjoy the spectacular views in the area. After you locate the cache, look up to the north to see the abandoned, once elegant home of Dr. Ashman high above you on the hilltop.
If you're adventurous, walk or drive further up hill until you come to a fork in the road. If you go to the right, you can go all the way to Dr. Ashman's home. If you go to the left, you will come to an incomplete hotel. Both are on the very tops of neighboring hills and offer spectacular views. The hikes from the cache to either of these locations are significant--bring plenty of water and sunscreen.
To get to the recommended parking location, enter the road to Vida del Mar at the small town of Naranjo on Highway 200. At the end of the Vida del Mar road (approx. 2 mi.) turn left toward Palma Real. Turn right at the sign to Las Conchas Condominios. Park near the entrance of Las Conchas.
After you hunt the cache, visit Palma Real for a wonderful lunch, dinner, or just a drink.
