Geocache Description:

Located on The Isle of Hope in Savannah. It is an easy cache, that is handicap accessible. There is also a park nearby so bring the kids and the dog. Have fun!

Park in the lot near the fire station at coordinates:
N 31 58.872
W 081 03.538

From there, stay on the brick sidewalk an proceed to:
N 31 58.913
W 081 03.566

You will come to an old bell and a small cemetery. Make note of the year that the bell was broken. Also, count the number of Confederate dead, marked by the iron crosses. When counting the crosses, please remain on the sidewalk to preserve the cemetery grounds.

Perform the following calculations:

Subtract 1150 from the year the bell broke = XXX
Multiply the number of crosses by 10 and add 143 = YYY

Then proceed to the following coordinates:

N 31 58.XXX
W 81 03.YYY

You will see a monument honoring the only soldier from Isle of Hope to die in World War II. The obelisk is cut off at the top to symbolize a life cut short.

From the monument, proceed south for 25 feet to find the cache. Please remove and replace the cache carefully. Just pull the container away from the top. It does not screw off and on.

Other interesting sites nearby are The Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Chapel (about 200 feet to the north). There is also a monument about 50 feet to the west honoring the thousands of brave little turtles who gave their lives to become Barbee's Turtle Soup. And then there is Bluff Drive, about 100 yards to the east. It is well worth a few extra minutes to explore Bluff Drive after you find the cache.

Enjoy your visit to the Isle of Hope
