Geocache Description:

Foothills of the blue mountains.

This is our first cache hide so we decided to start with a multi that’s not all that difficult.

It’s local, so we know the area well.
With the area being full of history we decide to base it on that.

One of the early landowners was the widow Rosetta Marsh.
In 1809 she was granted 150 acres, which was known as "Islington".
This is now part of the Lakes Scheme.

In 1810 she married Samual Terry, a former convict, who had become one of Australia's wealthiest men of the time.

Although their principal residence was in Pitt Street, Sydney,
they built their country estate on their property "Mount Pleasant" in approx. 1820.

Rosetta planted a row of olive trees in approx. 1820 near their two-story house on the "Mt Pleasant" property.
The house was demolished in 1950 but some of the olive trees can still be seen today.
There is not as many of the original trees remaining now due to the local councils ill-informed decision to bulldoze
and grind a dozon or so to woodchips in 2007, this also included the original cache.
The woodchipped trees were replaced with more olives trees, but they cannot replace the 180+ years of history that
was destroyed in just a few hours.

There are a few different approaches if driving.

WP1 is approx. the road to where the "Islington" estate used to be. Here you will need to find the co ordinates to WP2.

WP2 is not to far from WP1 (approx 1km as crow flies) It can be a nice walk with only one road to cross.

Be warned MUGGLES live close so a bit of stealth may be required.

Note:
The oldest Catholic cemetery in Australia can be seen from here within the lakes area,
roughly due west the only undistrbed clump of trees, but unfortunately not accessable without the lakes permission.

Cache is a 1.5Ltr white round container.
