A short hike on the Mattabesett Trail to a rocky overlook called Bear Rock. The 1760 map of Durham notes this area as "Bare" Rock. Either way, it provides a view of Durham, with the church spire in the middle. Thanks to the local good samaritan who found the original cache and reported to GC.com that he rehid it nearby! That inspired me to rehide the cache. (in a more muggle-proof spot) From Route 79 in Durham, take Higganum Road to the Stop sign. Take a right at the stop sign and then a quick left onto Harvey Road. Parking can be found in and around N 41* 27.941' W 072* 38.746' Look for the blue blazed Mattabesset Trail. Near the top, you can take the bypass for an easier route or take the blue trail all the way with a short scramble to the top. The cache is a short hike from the peak. (The cache is located close to the trail. If you bushwhack, make sure you make it to the peak for the views near the old cache location of 41'28.153 72'39.062)
