Alstrom Point Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

GeoCaptain & The Deckhands: Hi Everybody. Unfortunately, Mother Nature has moved in next to this geocache. It appears that a small group of rattlesnakes have set up a den withing 20 feet of this cache. As a result, I have chosen to archive this cache to protect any future geocachers from an unwanted trip to the Emergency room for a dose of anti-venom, and more importantly to protect the snakes from anyone who might decide that they need to be removed. We are all guests in their world and until they decide to move along, we will stay away.

Geocache Description:

This cache is near the Alstrom Point overlook.

This site is about 2 hours from Page on dirt roads. The road to this site is impassable during and after rain. The road turns into a world class mud-bog when the ground is wet. High clearance and 4X4 is necessary. We took our Ford Expedition to the site, but I would not take it back again. Our Toyota Tacoma could have handled it much better. There are several trails in the area, so we suggest doing some homework and making some notes on Alstrom Point. You will leave Highway 89 near Bigwater Utah. Follow your notes and GPS from there. Don’t forget the camera!

The view is amazing, but there are no fences. You can access the cache site without getting too close to any sheer drops.

Took several GPS readings at the site. These are the best results:
37.03.499 / 111.21.800
37.03.503 / 111.21.797
37.03.501 / 111.21.798

The posted cords are the best average. Again, you don't have to be too close to sheer drops.

Cache container is a brown 30cal ammo can.

Please remember that this cache in now a part of nature. Its neighbors are the local wildlife. This includes legless cold-blooded animals that bite. Please keep your wits about you and keep a sharp eye for the local residents and keep an eye on the little ones!
