Geocache Description:

This cache is intended as an extension to the "Arbour" cache GCMMR4 between stages 1 and 2, although it can be done as a stand-alone linear cache. I recommend that the extension to GCMMR4 option is only attempted by experienced, sure-footed fell walkers. Tom Waring's Well is identified on OS map OL41, but I could not find anything that might be it, so the cache is just in the general area - if you think you have found the "well", let me know!

The warning that is given in GCMMR4 applies even more so to this cache if attempted as an extension. The route from the cache to the Arbour along the River Calder has no track, is over rough, boggy ground, and requires several potentially precarious crossings of the river. Do not attempt unless you are confident of walking in such conditions. I strongly recommend not doing this alone. The cache is very remote, the nearest habitation being several kilometers away. If attempted as a stand-alone cache from Stang Yule, most of the route can be done on a shooters' track and it is therefore less risky (although equally remote!).

The cache is a film canister containing just pencil and paper.

Allow at least an extra 1.5 hours for the extension or 3.5 hours as a stand-alone. Take a copy of the new OL41 map, which shows the extent of the new access land.

Note that grouse shooting takes place occasionally on this land during the season from the Glorious Twelfth (August) to 10th December. However, all Sundays are shooting-free. The following website gives details of access restrictions: (visit link)
