Davey's Pre-emptive Right Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dicksontwo: THe actions of a few detestable people recently have destroyed the furure enjoyment of many people. After some deplorable actions, we now find the cache has been stolen. We have decided not to perservere with the cache, which was placed in the early, more enjoyable, days of this game to bring people to a lovely area and provide a little history.

Geocache Description:

The hide is not intended to be difficult, it is intended to bring you to this pleasant spot with good views and a little history. No need to leave the path to reach the cache. Don’t let the Geo Kids through the fences – the cliff edges are dangerous.

Looking around, you will see plenty of broken shells in the cliff top soil – evidence of the first (Aboriginal) settlers in the area. Mr Davey was the first European owner of the land around here. Early European settlers in the Port Philip region, before formal surveys were made, occupied land on a lease basis. When Bureaucracy finally caught up, occupiers were able to buy 640 acres (a square mile) of their holding at a set price – the Pre-emptive Right. The balance of land was divided into lots and auctioned. A nice 750m walk to the north, along the cliff top will take you to Daveys Bay (only accessible on foot). South, a longer walk would take you to Canadian Bay, which featured in the film On the Beach. The cache is a 250 ml Sistema-type container. When repaced on 11/01/20 there were a couple of swaps ('trades' if you use American English). If you take something you should leave something.
