Jumbles Quarry was one of the main sources of stone used to construct the dam for Stocks Reservoir in the 1920's. A 4.5 mile branch line (3ft gauge) was built to transport the stone from quarry to dam. A759 is one of the relics from this operation.
The walk is entirely on land that was off limits until the CRoW act was introduced in September 2004.
Park at the Cross of Greet Bridge (SD 703 590), enter the access point, and walk up by the side of the wood until you reach a footbridge. Cross the bridge and proceed for about 100 metres, where you will see a small section of rail in the path. Follow the direction of the track towards Jumbles quarry - the route taken by the railway is fairly clear for most of the way, with railway sleepers marking some of the route. Apparently there was a turning circle and a tip just before Far Costy Clough, if you can spot them. "Railway (disused)" is marked on older copies of the OL41 map, but sadly has been left off the latest version (I find these obscure bits of information on maps fascinating and just have to go and see what they are).
Crossing Far Costy Clough can be very tricky, so be very careful. Part of the stream is covered in reeds to trap the unwary. There must have been a bridge here at one time, as the railway tracks can clearly be seen on both sides, but unfortunately it is long gone.
The route can be boggy, so wear suitable footwear.
