The local name of Old Man’s Bottom refers to the area around the ford and footbridge. I believe it is more accurately Old Man Bottom which derives from Old Man (river) – bottom (the lowest point hereabouts).
Turn off the main East Allen Valley road and drop steeply down until you come to a ford and footbridge. Plenty of parking is available here at N54 51.202 W002 14.914 (NY841509)
Take the public footpath south, initially through the woods, then alongside the river. The footpath used to go alongside the river all the way, but now you would have to negotiate missing sections which have been washed away!
