Geocache Description:

This cache is a revamp of Elvaston Castle where the cache location has been updated and some clues devised in order to identify the actual cache location. The reference above is the main car park (where there is a charge of approx £1.40 to park) this is the recommended start point.

CACHE LOACTION: N-52’53.ABC W-001’23.XYZ

Before leaving the car park you may find it helpful to familiarise yourself with the Castle and County Park layout, this can be done by viewing the notice board by the toilets. All answers are clearly visible though in some cases you may need to search to find them, but that’s part of the fun, isn't it? Note that the cache area is prone to getting overgrown with foliage, but still accessible, some tree coverage may limit GPS but you will always get a signal near by and once in the vicinity the location itself should become reasonably obvious.

The clues are in an order that should make for a nice stroll through the grounds, but allow yourself a couple of hours, especialy if you stop to feed the swans, ducks or even yourself.

Clue 1: An easy one to start, subtract the number of swings from number of tyres in the Toddlers Play Area. The answer will be “C”

Now take a walk to the castle by any route of your own choosing, these are well marked. One of the routes you could take will take you very close to the cache.

Clue 2: Elvaston Castle Country Park was the very first to be opened in England. John Cripps opened the park in which year. Now add all the digits of the answer together, do the same again with the result to arrive at a single number which will be “Y”

Clue 3: What is the telephone number of the Riding Centre. If you take the last 2 numbers and subtract the smaller from the larger you will arrive at “Z”

Clue 4: Time to visit the St Bartholomew's Church where you should discover 4 small Coats-of-Arms, one of which is dominated by circles. If you multiply the number of circles by 2 you will have the answer for “X”

Clue 5: You did familiarise yourself with the park layout, didn’t you? Now you need to visit the Moorish Temple where to get the answer for “A” you will need to add 1 to the number of lions on the Coat-of-Arms. (The Moorish Temple is at the end of a nice open Arboretum area) and in winter months is quite a spooky place

Clue 6: To find you last number for "B" you need to pass through the Golden Gates. These gates, which had previously adorned the royal palaces at Madrid and Versailles had been acquired by the 3rd Earl of Harrington in 1819. There is a Latin phrase on the gates which when translated means “For God and King”, count the number of letters, divide by 2 and subtract the number of tyres in clue 1 and you will have your final answer.

That is all the clues you need and once you have replaced the letters with the numbers you will have the coordinates you need to discover the cache, which is not to far from where you started. Please be very careful and as discreet as possible as the "cache site itself" is in a very popular area and clearlyvisible by Muggles. Good hunting.
