Geocache Description:

Like a reclining lion this natural feature is prominent in an area that is a haven for tourists and locals alike.

Prior to TV reception (apart from the ABC!), picture theatres and ice rinks, when this area was just a small coastal community, for a fun family day out parents would take their children here. Armed with pieces of masonite or cardboard they would scale the “lion” and once as high as they’d dare, turn and ride the rudimentary sled down the bumpy grassy slopes to the dirt track below.

As fate would have it some children were more daring than others. Buoyed by the cheers of their peers and the draw of completing a local rite of passage, some would stand on their sled and “ski the lion”. Over the years the true name of this local icon has been somewhat corrupted, but those of us who passed this test as a child will always remember the true moniker!

Well, maybe it happened that way …………

When searching for the cache it is important to note it has been located in a safe place. You should observe all signs and let common sense prevail. The cache can be reached without fear of having rocks landing on your head or stepping outside safety fences.

As far as swaps go, the container is about 1.5 litres in size and has some trinkets for the kids and will readily accept travel bugs, for the adults .... a magnificent view awaits!
