During our Katrina evacuation, I did a cache which quite
possibly took longer than any other cache I have ever done. It took
about 7 hours over 3 days. It is a Terracache called "An
Institution of Higher Learning" (TC7CI). I combined ideas from that
cache with an idea I had prior to Katrina to yield this cache -
which will require significant effort (although probably not as
much as TC7CI). Because of that, finders will be rewarded
handsomely with some nice trade items - including rare unactivated
geocoins, some of my collection of BillsBayou custom coins, and
some New Orleans-themed items.
You will NEED to bring the map and the photos on this page with
you in some form.
The first in this series is centered around Marlyville/Fontainebleau.
My house is at the almost exact center of this neighborhood, and I
have decided to begin this series here.
You can expect this cache to take a significant amount of time,
although you can use a vehicle (car or bike) to make the trip a
little quicker.
Each of the lettered pictures here was taken from a location
marked on this map (clicking the map will open a larger version in
a new window) with a number.
Not all of the places marked with numbers on the map were used
for photos. The calibration of Google Earth to actual LAT/LON isn't
very accurate, but there are only 8 red herrings on the map.
Once you have isolated all the locations, the coordinates of the
cache location will be given by: N 29° 5A.BCD W 090° 0E.FGH
The final
location is in this neighborhood, and is only accessible during
7am-2pm on weekdays and 7am-12pm on Saturdays - and as you can tell
from logs, this may not be 100% reliable!
