This cache can be approached from two directions, the first of
which involves a very steep climb with a round trip of app 1¼
miles. This way takes you up through the woods on a cobbled roadway
until you are near the top of the rock and then continues on a well
defined (very steep) path to the open moorland. This is a beautiful
walk through Dewerstone wood and the sound of birds singing can be
heard over the roar of the River Plym below. Parking for this route
is at N50° 27.233’ W004° 04.044'.
The easier route follows open moorland from Cadover and is about a
2½ miles round trip. Parking is at N50° 27.931’ W004° 02.292’. The
terrain rating is for the woodland route but a rating of 2 would be
more suitable for the moorland route.
From the cache site you have an excellent view of the Plym valley
below and you can see over to Plymouth Sound.
On top of the main outcrop on Dewerstone Hill is a memorial to N T
Carrington, "The Poet of Dartmoor" who died on 2nd September 1830
at 53 years of age.
The cache is a 3 litre container with log book and various items.
It is hidden on an outcrop but can be reached in safety.
