INDIANA SPIRIT
QUEST
Photos by Rupert2
The Indiana Spirit Quest series of
geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries
built by Hoosier Pioneers. In less than a year, the quest has grown
to over a hundred thirty caches hidden in seventeen Indiana
counties, and the hiders have grown to five cacher teams, four of
which are comprised of A Man and His Dog...
PRAIRIEPARTNERS has set a record for
one-day ISQ finds on 10-16-2004 at 55! 125 cacher teams have
logged over 1,700 finds.
INDIANA SPIRIT
QUEST #130
”Inside the Fort"
Welcome to ISQ's thirteenth Indiana County.
Ironically you are not in Indianapolis, but in Lawrence on the
grounds of what was Fort Benjamin Harrison. This is the Spring
Valley(or Thomas Silvey) Cemetery, Lawrence Township, Marion
County. According to the military style historical marker
sign, this is a "private cemetery estalished in 1824 by the early
settlers of Lawrence Township." Given this location has been within
a military installation for the last 100 years or so, it has
assumed more of a feel of a military rathen than a pioneer
graveyard. Flags are visible everywhere from a wide variety of
wars. The grave pictured above is most likely from the Civil War
era.
This is the grave of William Reddick, veteran of the
American Revolution.
The cache
container is a micro, plastic bottle. Please leave it
at least as well as concealed as you found it. Careful
replacement is greatly appreciated. BYOP. If you find
the coordinates to be a little off, please do not hesitate to
post a waypoint with your log. There are many US flags
decorating the graves of veterans. Bring a new flag or
two and replace the weathered flags as appropriate. As
always, be respectful, and cache in, trash out. God Bless our
troops in harm's
way.
