Steliko Point Lookout is located in the mountains of central
Washington, seven miles northwest of Entiat. Steliko began as a
camp in 1925. The present structure, a 10' L-4 built in 1947, is
used for emergency detection, usually during lightning storms.
The Elevation is only 2586', therefore is can be accessed in the
early spring. We had no trouble driving to it on March 5, although
I did use 4WD while driving through a snowdrift. From the top you
can see Entiat Ridge, the Chelan Mountains, and other lookout
points. Looking down below you will see the Entiat River
This lookout is in very good shape. It must have been restored
recently. It is still used during the summer months when fire
danger is highest, and is accessible both to the FS shed below and
the Entiat Ranger station.
The cache is hidden near the top, but out of sight of the
lookout. Be sure to hide it well to prevent visitors to the lookout
from finding it.
Directions: Near the town of Entiat, turn off Hiway 97A and head
northwest on the Entiat River Road to Ardenvoir. After passing
through Ardenvoir, turn right at Steliko, and follow the Forest
Service Road 5310 approximately 1-1/2 miles to the lookout.
The cache is a large green ammo box. Original contents include
a FTF button, a WA State Geocoin, a Canadian Geocoin, and a travel
bug. Enjoy the drive and the view.
