Geocache Description:

This is an "island" cache. Depending on river levels come prepared to get wet, wear waders, or bring a canoe.

Stepping Stones Cache has a rock or stone theme, so please bring your SMALL rock or stone to trade. If you don’t remember to bring one with you, you can pick one up along the way.

Please use the parking waypoint provided. You'll need to drive past the "Road Closed" signs on Falls of Neuse Road to access the parking lot. The access road is no parking.

Original description:

You will most likely get a little wet on this trek, so come prepared. If the water is to high, the trip can be very dangerous, so be prepared to call off the search and come back another day. In an effort to have the whole Raleighbells team place the cache, we used a canoe (almost got wet that way as well). Waders would have worked as well. We have tried to make provisions for occasional flooding, but if the cache has many DNFs, especially after some heavy rain.

We will keep checking on the cache as well. We love this area, especially in the warm summer months, but beware of “slim no shoulders.” This cache is on US Army Corps of Engineers land, but hunting is not allowed in this area, although many people can be seen here “hunting” for finned creatures. The cache is an ammo can.

New info:

The cache has been moved due to a shift in the river. It's on higher ground, but Raleighbells' original cautions about conditions still apply when the river level is high. The difficulty has been raised a half step due to increased camouflage and the terrain lowered a whole step due to the probability that you will not need a boat. Opinions on the accuracy of these new ratings are encouraged.
