Geocache Description:

Geocaching.com has designated April 16th as the 3rd Annual  International CITO Day.  We're doing our part by making the 16th the first of our 2005 clean ups for our adopted section of US 24.

Northwest Ohio Geocachers are the proud maintainers of a 2 mile section of Adopt-A-Highway in conjunction with the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Our section is on US 24 / Anthony Wayne Trail, west of Waterville, and a portion of our section borders Providence Metropark.

The obligations of our group are to pick up litter 4 times a year and in return ODOT has posted nice free advertising for us on 2 signs, one on each end of our section.

Coordinates for the sign at the eastern end of our section:

  N 41  25.974    W 083  49.871

Coordinates for the sign at the western end of our section:

  N 41  25.029    W 083  51.446

We are holding this year's 1st litter pick-up on Saturday, April 16th, starting at 10:00am.  This should only take 2 or so hours and afterwards people can break away, go grab a bite to eat with others or hunt some local caches.

ODOT has been notified and they’ll post orange SHOULDER WORK AHEAD signs and drop off trash bags at the end of our section. We already have the orange safety vests that everyone needs to wear during cleanup.  We are responsible for picking up litter between the berm of the road and the utility pole line.   Wear some sturdy shoes and bring gloves in case there are some dangerous items along the way (eg. broken glass and uhh, containers filled with a certain disgusting liquid)

We need to let you know that because this is a cache posted on geocaching.com it follows the same guidelines of liability and by participating you are agreeing to the disclaimer that can be found on this and any cache page. You are taking part on your own and NWOGEO has no insurance in case something happens. Children are certainly allowed but parents need to use their discretion concerning how they wish their children to be involved.

We'll meet at the American Legion parking lot to organize our efforts.  This parking lot is located at the coordinates posted at the top of the page.  This lot is close to being the middle of our section so it makes a pretty good base of operations.   If you can’t or don’t feel like walking and picking up litter, we’ll need one or two drivers to help distribute people, trash bags, as well as water or whatever else we need.  If you can’t make it right at 10:00am , this will also be a good place for you to come and find someone who can get you up to speed.

This is a way of giving back to the community as well as making a good name for our organization so let’s have lots of people out there, do it quickly and have fun doing it!

Any questions can be posted here and someone will answer it.  If you have FRS radios, bring em along, set them to channel 2.  Also, you may encounter ticks while picking up trash in some of the areas along our section and sunscreen might be a good idea too.

Hope to see you there !
