This is a year-round cache at 8500’ with spectacular vistas. It’s
named after the WWII ski trooper hero, John Paul, whose name graces
a chair lift, a high mountain lodge, and a ski run. You will see a
monument dedicated to him.
First of all the difficulty of the terrain: The 3.5 rating is for a
summer approach from the resort base 2,000’ feet below. You can
take some of the difficulty off by riding the Needles Express,
traversing on access roads and trails across the Ogden Bowl to the
John Paul Lodge, which is 1/3 mile from the cache. Winter is the
easiest. Geocaching skiers who are confident intermediates can just
slide to this one. You don't have to descend the difficult
off-piste John Paul run, just scoot around the corner to Wildflower
from the cache site. If the batteries go out on your GPSr, read the
hint, it’s a dead giveaway. The cache container is a plastic jar 6”
X 3½”, inside a blue nylon bag. Original odds and end contents
include: A priceless UtahJean Cache Pawn Pix of The Girls (of
course) Some guitar picks and a slide Various pins and badges
Logbook, pen, pencil, yadayadayada Enjoy!
