Greetings,

It has been a while since I first looked at this cache. I can't find any recent responses about maintaining this cache so for the time being it will be archived and removed from the active cache listings. We are no longer leaving caches stay disabled for extended periods of time.

Groundspeak and the geocaching community appreciate your contributions to geocaching and I hope to see this cache back in operation soon.

If you can get it back up and running in the next week or so contact me to get it re-listed. Otherwise plan to move it slightly and set up a new cache page.

[green]Most problems can be solved with good communication so reply back to the reviewer and we will do everything possible within the guidelines to get your cache published. It is best to give me as much information as possible instead of saying nothing at all. This will speed up the process and we can get your cache published. [/green]

Geocache Description:

The final cache has recently been moved about 100 yards to bring it within the Park's boundaries.

This is a multi-location cache. The first 3 waypoints yield information needed to find the final traditional cache.

Creve Coeur Lake Park has been a favorite destination of mine for many years and surly the favorite County Park of my Golden Retrievers. It was an easy choice then for Creve Coeur Park to be my pick as the location to hide my first cache.

This is a multi-part cache that will feature both the beauty and the history of this special park. The first 3 parts do not have physical caches to find. They are places to visit, easily accessible by car. Information will be found at each of these 3 waypoints which will be used to find the final traditional cache.

The final cache involves a 3 mile round trip walk from the third waypoint. The park has recently opened a parking lot which is a nearer the final cache but the walk is not nearly as nice. The path to the cache is handicapped accessible except for the last 10+ feet which is “off trail”. The cache is a large clear Rubbermaid container.

Before reading further or taking off to find this cache, please follow the link below for a brief history of Creve Coeur Lake which I hope will enhance your caching experience:
(visit link)

Waypoint 1:

N 38° 42.932
W 90° 28.471

This waypoint will take you to an old park building. This is the power house for the old trolley line connecting Creve Coeur Lake with downtown St. Louis over 60 years ago. While you are here walk a bit west and you will find the top of the grand staircase (over 200 steps) leading to the lower park. This staircase has recently been restored by the Parks Department. You task here is to walk around the power house and count all of the windows that have been replaced by glass blocks: This two digit number is A B toward the final cache solution.

(N.B. “Spencer’s Cache” is very near by and you may want to do this cache while you are in the area.)

Waypoint 2:

N 38° 43.521
W 90° 29.341

On your way to this waypoint you will pass the lake beach on one side and the Frisbee golf course on the other. From the waypoint you can see Creve Coeur Creek draining the lake toward the Missouri River as well as the new boathouse for the St. Louis Rowing Club (Rowing lessons are offered for all ages during the summer.) Your task here is to find a serial number – it’s digits represent C D E F G.

Waypoint 3:

N 38° 42.694
W 90° 28.786

This is one of the most beautiful spots in the park – different as the seasons change. It’s also available for weddings. There is a warning sign here. Count all of the letters on the sign and get H I

Waypoint 4:

If you are parked by Waypoint # 3 you are already at the closest parking lot to the final cache. Please DO NOT try to access the final cache through neighboring subdivisions. You will likely be trespassing and may encounter a cliff. With the information you have gathered all you now need to know to find the cache is:

J = A + H
K = A + B
L = H – A
M = A + I

The final cache is at:

N 38° JA.ILM
W 90° LC.BEL

CHECK SUM A + B + C + E + I + J + L + M = 36

Your walk to the cache will take you through a newly developed part of the park’s trail system. If you double back to your car after finding the cache, the total walk will be just less than 3 miles. If you take the longer route around the lake you will travel about 6 miles. About 100 yards past the cache, note a concrete and stone building now in ruin and some railroad tracks exposed along the trail. Could this have been one of the ice houses and part of the Laclede Creve Coeur Lake Railroad from the 1890’s?
If anyone has any answers about this spot, please me know.
