Located in the Lord Hill Regional park near Monroe. In an area of the park that doesn't see the crowds of the north end. Park property is west, so do not venture off to the left or right where signs are posted. Summertime access is much less bush whacking if you follow the grass field to the south of the barn. You are looking for a 50 cal ammo box.
Another cache in this beautiful regional park near Monroe. Many miles of hiking trails lead to vistas and hidden lakes. This cache will take you to the lesser known south area of the park with a peaceful walk near the Snohomish River. Much of the shoreline has been replanted with evergreen trees and eagle perches are in place for the many bald and osprey eagles that frequent this area. Look towards the north from the cache and you'll see several old growth fir trees on the cliffs with eagles no doubt watching you. Driving directions. Take 522 north to Monroe and exit on 164th. You will exit on to the round-about and take the next right on Tester Rd. This road parallels 522 south and you will drive back under the 522 bridge. Turn left on Old Tester Rd. and go a short distance to parking. There are several caches that can be reached from this side. You'll be walking about 3/4 of a mile R/T on mostly level road and grass. There may be some mud in rainy weather and this area is subject to flooding in the winter. Watch for the many deer. Check out the old earth moving equipment a short way NW of the cache on the road. Also you'll be passing a huge llamas farm on Tester Rd. so slow down and take a look at those fascinating animals.
Update: Jan 04, 2007 Due to the record floods in Nov. the cache needed replacement. Recent Fall work on the area has concluded and much of the area is now surrounded by a creek. If you don't have boots you can bypass the water, but it will take you in a circle route. Near the white tube gate take the gravel road to the left towards HY 522. Head towards the river and find a place to cross the new waterway. It was dry closer to the river on 1/04/07. During high water you are on your own. If you follow the road past the barn there's a rocky area where the water is only 3-4 inches deep. With the record rains we've had the past few months I wouldn't think it will get much worse. Boots are recommended and I upgraded the terrain rating and cache location.
Update 5/18/13, while checking on the cache last month there's a decent trail that crosses the creek and comes out near the old shovel. Work is being done on the new bridge, so that route is not recommended. There's blackberry vines and tall grass to and near the cache, so wear appropriate clothing.
