Geocache Description:

LIGO's Second Annual CITO Event located at "The Edgewood Oak Brush Plains Preserve"

Join us for Long Island Geocaching Organizations second Cache in - Trash out event.

The gathering point will be the somewhat unattractive parking area of The Edgewood Oak Brush Plains Preserve off Commack Road in Deer Park. This is an awesome piece of land beyond the parking area that needs our help. There will be new caches placed in the preserve to be activated when the event nears. The date is GC.com's official CITO day of APRIL 16, 2005. Starting at 11:00 AM. Visit Cache in-Trash out for more about how we can help keep these great natural resources as pristine for our grandchildren as they were for our grandparents. Come spend a few hours caching, meeting some other local Geocachers all the while helping to clean up this great place.

This property is managed by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and permission for this CITO event on such short notice was no small feat. Not that I did anything other than ask but through Ken Kindler of Hiking Long Island we were introduced to Denis Byrne - Edgewood - who scrambled to help us get this event under way. Denis was able to get us permission to hold this event without all the red tape. They do however require the names, addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses of all who will be helping. This information doesn't have to be posted here, you can e-mail JMBella or myself and we will see that it is protected.

"We at LIGO would like to encourage all of you to join the "Friends of Edgewood Brush Plain Preserve" They do a tremendous amount of work for this preserve and open space on Long Island in general. Denis Byrne will be there for the event as well as other members to answer any questions and help with the effort. They are an important ally and we thank Denis and Ken for their continued support." -Joe Rignola, JMBella

This is our way of saying thanks to the NYS DEC for letting us enjoy these awesome natural resources through Geocaching.

Coffee, donuts and soda will be waiting for you at the posted coordinates.

Thanks to the folks at NYGO I got this news in the mail: "Everyone that attends an official CITO event in New York during the month of April will be entered into a drawing. One name will be selected from the entries, and that person will be awarded a 2005 Empire Park Pass." Junglehair - NYGO President
