Nice stroller friendly trail in an unknown city park.
Little Squalicum Park is a nice park with a well-maintained trail and a whole lot of potential to be an awesome park. The area was first settled in 1853 by Edward and Theresa Eldridge as part of their 320 acre land donation. Through time the area became a EPA Brownfield site. A Brownfield site is an area that could be cleaned up or reused but the clean up is complicated by the contamination from creosote and pentachlorophenol (PCP) from a local wood treatment facility (See the EPAs Superfund site if you would like to find the local culprit). Heads up, don’t drink the stream water or eat the dirt at this time. If that is your thing, you may want to wait awhile.
If you are interested in a beach walk to the cache there is a parking lot at N48 45.776 W122 30.775. Right now the park is undeveloped and belongs to the blackberry bushes and other invasive plant species. The park is also part of the Bay to Baker Trail, I will let you guess which part...
Since the cache is only 5 feet from the trail after re-hiding please check from the trail to make sure it is not visible.
NEW PARKING SPOT! N48 46.030 W122 31.010 The park has added a dedicated parking spot for this park and done some trail maintenence. After parking head NE to the trailhead and follow well maintained trail as it curves to the right and starts heading South.
