The above coordinates will get you to the entrance to this little known ‘park’. The views here are spectacular.....its just a short 150’ walk through the ‘gate’ to the observation area. Often, the 'park ranger' will provide information and even a quick guided tour.
St. Johnsbury flourished as an industrial town at the height of the Victorian era. Many consider St. Johnsbury the quintessential Victorian, industrial city, including the paternalism of the Fairbanks family and its anti-union attitude. In 1891 St. Johnsbury Illustrated was printed, a review of the town's business, social, literary and educational facilities that provides glimpses of the Town's picturesque surroundings.
This ‘park’ and it’s scenery are a legacy of the Fairbanks Family of St. Johnsbury, inventors and manufacturers of the world's first platform scale, who gave this place to the town of St. Johnsbury in 1871. With his wealth Horace Fairbanks created a center of culture for the people of his town.
Your challenge is to find each of these ‘focal points’ while viewing the scenery. When you discover these, you will be able to fill in the blanks below and solve the first stage puzzle.
As with most caches, you’ll encounter pesky flies and those who insist on bushwacking.....but the view of the falls, the Mountains and the valley below is worth it all.
