Little Bay Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

erik88l-r: Dear Geocacher,
As there has been no response to my previous log, I'm archiving this cache to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

This cache will bring you to one of the most secluded beaches on the island of Anguilla. Although Little Bay is small, it has many wonderful things to offer. The tiny beach is nestled between massive cliffs. The cliffs jut straight out of the water to heights over 30 feet. They are composted of a palette of colors ranging from yellow to deep brown. The bottoms of the cliffs provide for some great snorkeling with their small caves and hollows.

There are two ways to access the cache: by land or by sea. I strongly suggest the approach by land. The drive gets a little bumpy, but you can practically park on top of the cache. Follow the small trail out along the top of the cliff to the south. When you reach the end/edge there is a rope to assist you in the steep climb down to the beach. It's very steep, but fairly easy. I've done this climb many times - usually wearing flip-flops, but I would recommend sneakers. There are very chunky crags and cracks in the rock to hold onto to. I'm discouraging the approach by sea because over the years as this site has gained popularity, the boat traffic has increased. We've noticed the negative effect that this has had on the reef and the sea life. There are signs posted restricting any anchoring in the bay - yet many boaters do not obey the regulations. If you do visit by boat there are four mooring buoys located just outside of the bay. The distance is swimable if you do not have a dinghy.

Once you're on the beach there are limited places that the cache could be hidden. Although the cache is a watertight lock-n-lock container, it was still placed above the water line. For those of you who visit from the sea… let's just say you didn't completely miss out on the rock climbing!

*NOTE: I fear that the replacement cache might too be a victim of Hurricane Omar. As with my other cache on the island... the caches are meant to get one to these beautiful beaches. Instead of disabling the cache, please, still venture out to the coords - it truly is a great spot of secluded beach. Until I am able to check and/or replace this cache, simply visit the spot and post a pic, or two, of Little Bay. And then claim a find for enjoying a day at the beach!
