Geocache Description:

Ar Ramadi Cache: Semper Firaq

OPSEC Reminder! (Operational Security)...

This cache is in a war zone. Mortars and rockets impact near it on a daily basis. You will need credentials to get in the coalition occupied zone that it is in. Do not post logs that give any references to what is around it; this might help the rocketeers aim a little better.

The Marine Expeditionary Force that is here now is not the first "MEF" to do battle in this AO. In 1917 the British led Mesopotamia Expeditionary Force defeated the Turkish Garrison of Ramadi during the War to End All Wars, World War I. For more information on this campaign see:

Group portrait of members of the Mesopotamian Expeditionary Force, probably including members of the 1st Wireless Signals Squadron, holding souvenirs from the battle for Ramadie. Their mementos include bullet shell cases, rifles, forage caps and belts. (Courtesy of Australian War Memorial, Donor E. Keast Burke)

The cache is a waterproof plastic container made to hold a wallet. It is wrapped in a piece of burlap from a sandbag and hidden in a groove in the stump of a log which is in a clump of bushes. First Finder's Bonus is a General Dynamics issued challenge coin. Other contents are: a pencil and sharpener, a University of Maryland notepad for log book, a guitar pick, a maglite replacement bulb, a pottery sherd (from Iraq), and a piece of nicorrette gum. See uploaded pictures for more details on the cache and contents.
